We're building Measured Gains with our own family first. This is the honest log: what we're testing, what's working, and what we changed. Written by Sean as the beta runs.
[Draft entries — replace with real notes from the beta. We keep the kids' names out of it unless Sean says otherwise.]

Why we start with a baseline, always
The first thing we learned at our own table: a good report card can sit on top of gaps from two grades back. One of mine was getting decent marks in math while quietly missing pieces from fourth grade. Nobody flagged it — not because anyone failed, but because nobody measured.
So the baseline comes first, every time. Not a vibe, not a placement quiz — a real measure of where the skills actually are, plus a confidence number in each subject. It changed how I plan everything else.
Entry 2 · Week 5
The week practice didn't happen
Honest entry: this was the hard week. One of the three stopped doing the practice sessions entirely. Too much going on, and honestly the sessions had gotten a little predictable.
What we changed: shorter blocks, and the coach moved the hardest work to the live session instead of leaving it for solo practice. Practice is back to happening — but I'm noting this one, because the promise of this program is that nothing slips between sessions. That week, something slipped. Now the log catches it the next morning, and the coach adjusts.
Entry 3 · Week 8
The weekly enjoyment check
We started asking one question every week: did you enjoy this? The answers changed the plan more than the test scores did. A kid who dreads the sessions stops improving no matter how good the material is.
Some weeks the honest answer was no. That's information too — it usually meant the difficulty was wrong, not the kid.
